…as INEC officials are rescued after boat mishap

 

The Governorship election in Ondo State started on a shaky ground Saturday a gunmen  invaded a polling unit and shot a man at close range.

 

This happened as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were rescued after a boat carrying them and voting materials in the reverine communities of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, capsized.

 

The gunmen, numbering about five, invaded the polling station in   Akure, the state capital and shot into the air to scare voters and other election officials.

 

The incident happened at unit 4, ward 4, Ijomu/Obanla, in Akure South local government.

 

Eyewitnesses said the yet-to-be identified gunmen went straight to a man, and shot him from a close range. The victim was said to have been rushed to a hospital.
